I spent another weekend mostly weeding. I made significant progress in the front yard and the vegetable beds, though the rest of the back yard is practically a war zone. I did manage to get a few more things in the ground. I planted my last two winter cabbages, six Camellia sinensis (tea) shrubs, and a pink-flowering ume tree to keep my sakura company. (It's a really small tree, though, so I don't know if it will actually flower this spring.)

As a result of all this outdoor time, I've developed quite the farmer's tan, which is kind of funny considering it's November.

Ohhh, envy! I've failed to get Camellia sinensis established several years in a row. It's apparently a deer favorite. And I've failed to find "Japanese apricot", apparently it's not reliably hardy here.

I hope the plants do well here. My other camellia bushes are still looking good, and they've been in the ground for several weeks.

The winter should be mild enough here for the ume...I just hope it's not TOO mild. I didn't research whether it has a particular chilling requirement. I guess I'll find out in a few months.

I know where to cold here for true ume, so you should be fine.
