Spring cleaning
May. 5th, 2019 08:46 amI've been meaning to catch up on posting ever since returning from my trip to Japan, but going through all those pictures and deciding what to upload seems so daunting, so I put it off.
In the meantime, I've decided that the project I need to work on the most is reducing my clutter. I did a little while my parents were visiting (namely, getting rid of a trash bag full of clothes that I never wear), but that's barely a pebble in the mountain of work. I determined that my goal for this weekend would be to clear off all the clutter that has been accumulating on my computer desk since last fall--novels that I haven't had the chance to read, CDs that I've been browsing for music to copy to my phone, tax documents, loan documents, insurance documents, Japanese books that I need to add to my spreadsheet, and various random receipts. It will take a while to excavate down through the various strata, but it's an achievable chunk of progress.
I've also been working in the garden this week. The beans are all growing nicely. I harvested the first batch of rhubarb. I cleared out a patch of ground in the neighbor's yard to plant some things for them (out of my extra seedlings). Today I plan to pick all the ume off my tree to start some homemade umeshu. The wind knocked a lot of my baby apricots off the tree, but I'm hoping I'll get at least a couple ripe ones. The tree is still young, so I imagine I'll get more in future years.
The Silicon Valley Open Studios art event is beginning this weekend, so I thought I'd go around and visit a couple of the nearby studios. Most of the locations are from Palo Alto down to San Jose, and I don't really want to go that far, but there are a couple in neighboring towns that I could see.
