The curious case of the dog in the night
Jan. 1st, 2018 05:14 amMy cough has, unfortunately, stuck around. I haven't gotten a full night's sleep in over a week.
It was particularly horrid last night. I mean, New Year's Eve is generally awful, especially the years that I have to work the morning shift the next day, but last night was terrible. Between the coughing, and the noise of the illegal fireworks, and the border collie who was so frightened of the fireworks that he chewed off two of the wooden bars of his crate so he could squeeze out and come scratching at the door leading to my bedroom until I let him in, I think I may have gotten ~3 hours of sleep.
Fun times.
In other news, they instituted a new method of reserving annual leave at work. Instead of having everyone write down on paper what they want and submit it by a certain date, they input everyone's name into a computer and had the computer draw names at random to reserve a couple weeks at a time, round-robin style. This caused serious problems for the scheduling team, because there was only about a day of warning before they started calling names, and if the person whose turn was called happened to be off on leave or sick that day (which, considering it's the winter holiday...yeah), everyone else in line had to wait until they either got back to work or called the scheduling department to relay their choices. Brilliant.
We managed to get through it, and I nabbed a nice three-week span for an overseas trip next year. That should be exciting.
In further news, my first sock is coming along nicely. I've turned the heel and am now heading for the toe. I should have it finished in a few more days. Then, of course, I'll have to start all over for the second one...
