Game I Backed:
Tokaido Collector's Edition
Status: Funded
This new version of Tokaido includes the Crossroads expansion and some promos as well as metal coins and tons of miniatures to represent the characters, plus other stuff. I keep waffling about keeping my pledge for this, because it's kind of expensive, but there are going to be so many miniatures included that I could keep a set for myself AND give a set to my parents.
Games I Viewed:
Kingdom Builder Big Box
Status: Funded
This project collects Kingdom Builder and a bunch of its expansions together in the same box. I looked at it because the game is designed by the same person who came up with Dominion, but area control as a game mechanism just doesn't do it for me.
Let Them Eat Shrimp
Status: 81% funded
This is a tile laying game by the creator of Biblios. Neither the theme nor the game mechanics appealed to me, but the campaign does offer a pledge level to buy a copy of Biblios for anyone who might be interested in that.
Hoyuk
Status: 88% funded
This game attempts to replicate the town-building of people at the dawn of civilization. I absolutely adore the art. Again, though, I'm not into the tile laying.

Date: 2014-03-03 02:04 pm (UTC)(note to everyone: OH MY GOD, the comments section. Do not waste your life reading them all like I did. It's all "too many minis, what a waste, let's have component upgrades instead!!" and then "OMG, you took away half of our minis, samurai level is worthless now!!" I wish I could look away from this train wreck.)

(It doesn't help that my clothes dryer stopped working over the weekend. I'm probably either going to have to pay someone to fix it or buy a new one.)

I know what you mean. I've been reading them all every day, and I'm about to give up on them. Personally, I'm in the "we don't need 4 copies of every character, that's overkill" camp. But then, I pledged before they offered the duplicate unpainted set, so it wasn't part of my consideration to begin with.

Yep. A couple people (before all this nonsense about minis started) have suggested the alternate versions be gender swaps, and I LOVE that idea. Otherwise I'm honestly not even excited about having 32, let alone 64.

Date: 2014-03-01 08:14 pm (UTC)Tokaido is on my short-but-growing list of games I won't play, because the entirety of the game seems to be my most-loathed mechanic: you are blocking me from what I want. For me, that just doesn't equal pleasant time spent with friends.

Date: 2014-03-01 10:23 pm (UTC)I'm sorry you see it that way, though I know you're not alone in that feeling. Personally, I look at this mechanic not as "I can't get what I want" but rather "How do I make the best of the options available?" It's that kind of decision-making that I find enjoyable.
