I admit that I love the bear-shaped bookcase, and I like the idea of the chair one (though the books don't look safe and the chair doesn't look comfortable), and I need the "bibliophile's dream" home where the bookshelves cover ever single wall (though I don't quite understand the curvature there), but for the rest...all visually striking, but why are so many avant-garde shelving solutions designed for people who appear to have only 25 books to shelve? I don't mean the denuded shelving in the pictures designed to show off the shelves themselves, but who has time to "strap in" a collection of 1500 books? Why choose the instability of a rolling shelf when you can put your tall vase someplace your books aren't? Even the slanted shelving left me frustrated at the prospect of trying to reshelve a book taken from the base of the slant. Gah! book-owning amateurs!

Yes, totally agreed. (Though I also loved the staircase shelves and the bookcase hiding the door--only my hypothetical bookcase door would be SUPER hidden, because there would be shelves on either side of it, too.) They're neat to look at, but most of them seemed to be more about the "uniqueness" of the shelf, rather than finding ways to fit more books into a room, which is what I'm more interested in.

I believe the idea is to eliminate corners, where books cannot be shelved.

Have to also agree here - most of them were about making the shelves attractive or a "wow factor" - but what can possibly be more attractive than a massive amount of books?

That picture just made me feel drunk. I have alcohol for that purpose, I don't need $10,000 in home remodeling expenses to do the job.

I want a poster of the flow chart, definitely. But it was most disturbing...my choices didn't lead to books I enjoyed, and walking backwards from books I like led me through choices I wouldn't consciously make. It's like I don't know myself...or want to admit what I really like.

I don't think the flow decisions were meant to be serious. In fact, I think I liked the snarky decision making flow more than the list of books.

Flowchart was fantastic. I got more laughs on the Sci-fi side, though. Love love love the edit about Stardust too, because I was just re-watching that movie this past week and laughing about the sky pirates. I like staircase bookshelves.

Is it sad that I've read every single book* on that chart? There are some pretty hilarious thought chains to follow, though - I think the Animal Farm one may be my favorite^^




*There are a few series on there I haven't finished - I'm still working my way through the Malazan and the Culture War series, and the Sword of Truth can go &^(* itself.
