I got the reimbursement for my plane ticket this week...so, of course, I took the money with me when I went shopping. I bought lots more sewing supplies. I have decided that, from now on, I will buy my fabric at the home goods store in Kusatsu. Not only do they have a good selection, I can get it in any length I want. Now, this may seem like a no-brainer. However, most of the craft shops sell all the prettiest designs cut into pieces of 1m X 2m, 1m X 1m, or even smaller for patchwork quilters.

While I was there, I picked up a small laminating machine. I figured I could use it to laminate pictures and such to use in my classes.

For lunch, I tried to order potato gratin with no meat again. I specifically told the waitress I wanted it with no sausage or ham. She went to check with the kitchen, and they said they could do it. I then repeated, to make absolutely certain she understood, that I wanted no meat in it at all. ...Of course, when it came, it had ham in it. I took it back, and someone (possibly the cook?) came out to apologize that the ham comes already mixed in, so they can't take it out. <sigh> Why didn't you say so in the first place? I would have ordered something different and saved you all the trouble.

Bummer with the meat in the food again.

Sorry it didn't work this time. That is *so* frustrating.

On the bright side, I'm glad you were able to get the sewing supplies. How far is Kusatsu from your place?

I've often thought of getting a small laminating machine, but I usually end up with big projects that wouldn't fit. In the olden days we used to use transparent Contact brand paper. It was still difficult to use alone on big projects. It seemed to work better if someone else would help me center the paper over the plastic.

Love, Mom

It's about 45 minutes by bike. Or about ten minutes by train, but it's a fifteen minute walk to the station, plus however long it takes for the train to arrive. Still, the train is a lot more convenient when it's raining.
