Drive by posting
Dec. 9th, 2018 07:48 am...Sadly, not actually driving yet. However, I was contacted to say my car should be ready sometime in the next few days, and someone would be getting in touch with me soon to arrange the details.
Other than that, I haven't been doing much. I submitted my game design idea to the contest, but they won't be deciding anything until next year. I'm mainly working on knitting a shawl for a Secret Santa present.
Last weekend there was a meeting at the public library for making the city's bicycle development plan. They had maps of the city printed out with all the current bike routes marked, and they asked the attendees to draw on the maps to mark areas that were either good for bicycling or that needed improvement. They also have set up a website for people to add comments online. Apparently, they have found that the majority of the public (about 55%) would like to bicycle more, but don't want to do it around cars. So they're going to try to work on solutions to add more car-free bicycle zones, to get more people out on bikes.
This is (in general) a bike-friendly city, but there are definitely some areas that could use improvement. I added several comments on the map. I'm looking forward to seeing what changes will be made, though I will likely be using my bicycle less after I get my car. I'll probably still use it for short trips where I don't have a lot to carry, like going to the movie theater or the bank.
Now is the season for looking at seed catalogues and deciding what to plant next year. I think I'm taking a break from both tomatoes and winter squash, since I have so much of both stocked up in the pantry and freezer. I want to add a patch of strawberries to the front yard (since Benny keeps eating all the ones in the back). I'll give corn one more shot. The fall cauliflower seeds that I planted never sprouted, which possibly means the packet was old or defective due to improper storage, so I'll try again with a new set of seeds in the spring. At least the garlic that I planted in the front yard seems to be doing quite well.
