...No, not really. However, it did snow last week. We got about two inches of the fluffy, wet stuff that melts as soon as the sun touches it. Trains were delayed due to the snow, leading to a school delay. I believe the first-year students had their entire day canceled, though the second-year students still had afternoon classes.

The weather has been relatively warm since then. In fact, yesterday I was HOT in my sweater...I think it got into the sixties.

I was watching the news last night, and they had a story about a hospital that was getting complaints from its patients because they would be released only to be forced to stand in a cloud of cigarette smoke at the taxi stand right outside. The hospital instituted a non-smoking taxi stand alternative. Reportedly it receives 50% more customers than the regular ones. Granted, it's a special situation, being right in front of a hospital, but this is promising. Hopefully non-smoking areas will continue to expand in Japan.

In Warcraft news, Glaya got to level 70 this morning. I immediately went and bought her a flying mount. I like the black-feathered front, but I'm not too sure about the red lion rump...I may switch for a different color later. For now, though, what's important is that it flies.

Gratz!!!!

Your mount is awesome! I didn't know that there were flying mounts! Completely awesome! I'm so excited for you!

I didn't know that there were flying mounts!

Yep--just introduced with the expansion. There's a "normal" flying mount (60% speed--same as the level 40 mount) for 1000g, plus an Epic flying mount (280% speed) for 5000g. It's easy enough to save up for the normal mount, since you get that much just from doing quests while leveling. The Epic mount is going to take a while...

Working computer and 70 here I come!

You have a lot to look forward to. The scenery in the expansion areas is amazing.

Coolness! On all accounts...

You may have heard about the cold spell here, sub zero temperatures (like -6 with windchills like -20) and snow, dry like sand hitting you in the face when it blows. The weatherman called it life-threatening cold if you are caught out in it. School has been cancelled all around the state Monday and Tuesday where children walk to school or are bussed...just too dangerous.

Congratulations on reaching 70! Your mount rocks!

The non-smoking taxi zone is a great step forward. We should have thought of complaining. Maybe the train station would also consider such a step.

I wish I could ride around Ironforge or Stormwind to show it to you, but it can only be used in Outland.

In an upcoming patch they will be introducing a rare dragon (Netherdrake) mount. I'm hoping to try getting one, though I imagine it will be hard.

His beak looks fierce. There should be mounted flying battles.

There should be mounted flying battles.

You're not allowed to use any abilities while mounted. (The same is true while on a ground mount.) In order to attack, the player would have to dismount in midair first. You are also not allowed to mount while in combat, so the player would have to kill the opponent to get out of combat...still in midair. It also has a three second casting time. So the player would have to dismount, attack and kill the opponent, and still have three seconds left to mount again before smacking into the ground.

Some classes (like mages) have a slowfall ability that lets them attack in midair and not take falling damage. Druids have a flight form that is instant cast, though they still have to be out of combat.

However, though midair combat between players is tricky, there are quests that require aerial bombing from gryphons. You are provided with special bombs that can be launched while mounted. It's pretty fun.

I play entirely too much, to be honest. The pile of dishes in my sink will attest to this.

...Though if I weren't playing, I'd probably be watching TV or something anyway. Those dishes are never going to look very attractive as a way to pass the time.

Have fun when you get to Nagrand! That's my favorite Outland zone so far.

Wow, what a mount! Oh, that sounds so wrong.

Congratulations on leveling up. I understood none of the conversation in the comments to this post, but I'm happy for you. ^_^ Fly happy!

Thanks. ^_^ The game really does have its own special vocabulary.

Speaking of ways to pass the time, however...any suggestions for projects you'd like me to work on during the day, now that my seniors are gone?

Bob says that if he were you, he'd learn Chinese! (That should fill in the time quite a bit.) But it's what they're looking for here, people who can speak Mandarin, Arabic, and Japanese.

Another idea is to look up good ideas for things to see in Japan this summer. Last summer was great. It'll be hard to top that.

If I think of more, I'll write again.

Ooh, projects on command! I must contemplate. ^_^

I can't think of anything right off the bat, but will consider further. Manga/novel lessons are always great. I'm really trying to overcome my kanji laziness and force myself to read more novel text (not least because I have to return Clothes 2 sometime before 2010).
