My week in review

spacealien_vampI haven't done much since graduation, since mainly I just sit at my desk while the students are taking their exams.
Sunday I went to the cultural exchange fair. As soon as I walked in the door, I was handed a "staff" badge and told to sit at the America table to give stickers to anyone who stopped by. (Japanese people love sticker rallies.) I pretty much sat at the table for the rest of the fair, except when they shooed me out to get a couple bites of salad.
Yesterday I was told that Ritsumeikan will be giving all the teachers computers to use starting next school year. I filled out a form to get a computer account. I'm looking forward to having an internet connection at work.
Classes start up again today...though by "classes" I mean that the students meet to get their test results back. I've been invited to a couple of the non-English major classes to play games, because they've never had the chance to interact with an ALT.

Date: 2006-03-08 07:00 pm (UTC)Oooh, that doesn't sound like too much fun. I would probably have put the stickers out with a sign offering each guest one and gone on my merry way. But maybe part of the joy of it for the others is getting to meet a real person from the United States.
What else was happening at the cultural exchange fair, do you know? I'm looking for ideas for our multicultural/talent show in the spring at the middle school.

Date: 2006-03-09 03:26 am (UTC)Well, I was at the back of the hall where people were performing, so I could at least watch a little (what I could see over spectators' heads). Plus, I had manga to read.
But maybe part of the joy of it for the others is getting to meet a real person from the United States.
That was pretty much the point, I think. Though only about five people actually stopped to talk with me. Most just got their stickers and moved on.
What else was happening at the cultural exchange fair, do you know?
They had people doing traditional dances from many countries (places in Africa, South America, and Asia). There was an ocarina music group, and some language classes performed a traditional Japenese comedy skit. Upstairs (where I didn't go this year), they had experiences such as origami, flower arrangement, tea ceremony, and wearing kimono.
