Yesterday the vice-principal stood up at the morning meeting and announced that the school had one of its burnable trash loads sent back due to containing material that could not be burned, and that the teachers should notify the students to be certain to check that the trash is properly separated.

On the surface, this seemed a reasonable enough announcement. After all, everyone knows that trash must be separated into "burnable" and "non-burnable" before being put out for collection. However, someone was curious and asked what exactly had been dumped in the trash that caused it to be rejected.

The answer? ...A crate full of fireworks.

Yeah, I can see why the city might not want to put that in the incinerator.

Curses! Foiled again! I'll get you yet, Japanese refuse industry!

(Seriously, who would throw out a crate full of live fireworks? Were they defective?)

Beats me. It was implied that someone unrelated to the school came and tossed the crate into the school's dumpster, but I don't know any further details.
