Some people came to school today with an ultrasound machine to test bone density. I tested at 94.4% of average for my age, or the equivalent of someone aged 51. ^_^; It was still in the "healthy" zone, though I was advised to exercise more.
When I compared with the teacher next to me, hers was in the "warning" zone. She was quite embarrassed. She told me, "At least you have the excuse that you're vegetarian. I don't have an excuse." (She immediately ran out and bought a carton of milk to drink.)
The funny part of the exam resulted from the fact that I had worn hose to school. (I was dressed all in black...long story...and was told I looked very "Goth-Lolita.") I had to take the hose off to use the ultrasound machine, so I did so in an adjoining room. After my exam, I went into the adjoining room to put the hose back on. The doctor?technician? running the ultrasound must have forgotten I was in there, because he opened the door while I was still adjusting my skirt. He jumped back as if he had been electrocuted and scurried away. <snicker> It's not as if he could have seen anything interesting at that point, anyway.

Date: 2005-09-20 07:07 pm (UTC)See, with all the walking and biking you do and carrying heavy things, I was thinking that you do exercise pretty much. Hmmm. I know they say that weight training can be good for the bones. In Canada they did that experiment with school children where a few times a day they just had them get up and jump for, say 15 seconds at a time, and the students' bone density increased.

I did, however, find Campbell's vegetarian vegetable soup at the import store. That's the one form of cooked vegetables I actually like. It's not green, but it's better than my usual fare.

Re: Okay, if no one else is going to ask...
Date: 2005-09-21 02:31 pm (UTC)We were talking about the purple-hair thing in one of my classes. The students decided that, in addition to dyeing my hair purple for the festival, I should wear a Chinese-style dress.
I don't have a Chinese dress here with me, but I do have a vaguely Chinese-style top. I figured it wouldn't hurt to buy a skirt to match it. So I went out shopping last weekend, looking for a skirt. I had three conditions--it had to be 1) black, 2) long, and 3) machine washable.
The first two conditions were no problem, but the third proved to be the kicker. They really love their dry-clean-only clothes here. I had to visit about five different shops in a huge department store before I found a skirt that fit all the requirements.
Since I had gone through all that trouble, I decided to wear it once right away. I didn't want to wear it with the Chinese top, though, because that would take away the impact of wearing it for the festival. So instead I wore it with a black camisole covered with a light, black, lacy sweater, and then black hose to match. So I wound up in an outfit all black and lacy.
