After cleaning my living room and vacuuming the kitchen this morning, I decided to splurge on going to Kyoto to watch the Tsubasa movie. And when I say "splurge," I mean it--Japanese movie ticket prices are about 1800 yen, which at the current exchange rate comes out to $16.36. But the movie is only showing until Friday, so it was today or nothing.

I thought I had allowed plenty of time to make it to the movie theater, but when I arrived, they had already sold out for the earlier of the two showings. ;_; The only other option was to wait six hours for the evening showing. Okay, Tsubasa is fun to watch, and I was even willing to spend the 1800 for the ticket (not to mention the $10 for the round-trip train to Kyoto), but it definitely wasn't worth paying that price AND wasting the whole day waiting. Instead, I got some book-shopping in just so the trip wasn't a total loss and then went back home.

My project for the evening was making screen captures of the video I took at the school festival last year. My seniors are working on a chapter about school festivals, and we want them to make pamphlets about their school festival as an activity. They could, of course, draw pictures, but they would spend the whole class period drawing rather than using English. So I offered to bring in a CD of images so they could make their pamphlets in the computer lab and just insert the pictures. That way, hopefully, they'll concentrate more on using their English. We'll see how it goes... My main regret is that, while I was filming last year, my videocamera battery died on the day this particular class performed, so the only pictures I have of their class are from my cell phone camera. It's better than nothing, I suppose.

Sorry...

about missing the movie and the battery dying at last year's festival.

What a nice, creative project for them to work on.

Their booklet about their customs is so nice. I really like it. I think they touched on some very interesting aspects of their culture and gave a nice view from their perspective. They seem to do so well in English.
