There was a bit of excitement around here this past week as a break in the rain allowed time for workers to come in and replace my roof. It was expensive, and it took longer than expected because they had to replace some rotted wood around the chimney, but the new shingles come with a 50-year warranty, and even the inspector was impressed with the quality of the job.

I also contracted for a set of solar panels. Those are scheduled to be installed on Wednesday.

Various fruit trees are starting to wake up all over the yard. The plum tree is blossoming right now, and I imagine the apple and cherry trees won't be too far behind.

My dad has put in days of work on the fence in the back yard, repairing the damage done by the neighbors' dog as she forced her way through it in multiple places. He has it fastened down solidly, now, with brick and concrete along the entire bottom edge so she can't dig underneath it any more. It should be nice and secure for when Benny comes.

Congratulations on the roofing project! That must be quite a relief. And you continue to be fortunate in your parents. I'm glad Benny will be secure when he comes home.

Yay for the new roof! I love seeing the progress you're making on your house. The improvements you've made in such a short time are really impressive.

Thanks!

I'm glad Benny will be secure when he comes home.

Yes, there's no telling how far he might get if he managed to sneak out of the yard and start following his nose.

This is going to be it for a while. It's going to take another 2-3 years to save up enough for the next big project.

MY roof repair people come tomorrow. Original installers are defunct, so we'll see what happens. I'm in envy of your solar panels! We have too much shade to make them worthwhile, in spite of our huge roof. And also of your dad's work on the fence!
