Kickstarter Game Update: Week 3

I've been noticing a number of game designers and publishers announcing that they will be launching Kickstarter projects around September 15, so we may have a reprieve until then.

Looking back: Week 2.

I didn't back any new games this week.

Game I Viewed:
Belle of the Ball: A Fancy Schmancy Card Game

Status: 55% funded

This is a card game in which players use various actions to manipulate the attendance of guests at parties they are hosting as well as to gain the favor of the lovely Belle. I think the art looks great, and the theme of the game appears fun. I'm just a bit put off by the overdone wacky humor evidenced by the names of the guests on the example cards (such as "Gigglelack Lololol" and "Fffffffff Flippinbird").

Agreed: the theme looks like it could be fun, but the names detract from that for me. (I don't need deadly serious names, just...a more clever form of silly.)

Yeah, I am definitely not a fan of the names in that game, which is too bad because the art really is great and it looks fun otherwise. (Also, love that one of the cards is "Tea, Earl Grey, Hot.") I was briefly worried that I would be sucked in via the packages with the other two games, but I just watched reviews for them and I think I'm totally safe from this one.

Yeah, I can pass on this. With so much on my Kickstarter plate already, I am really trying not to let myself get worked up by every project that comes along. Especially since my opportunities to play with others are somewhat limited.

Fleet's totally got my number, though.

That's really the kicker for me. I need to get a lot of use back for my money, which is why I still haven't purchased Takenoko and Lords of Waterdeep. (Also, Wil Wheaton was totally high on Takenoko during and after GenCon, so he is my new best friend...or his twitter feed is.)

Aw, I rarely check Twitter anymore so I missed that. I love that they had a giant game (and a giant Ticket to Ride!) and that they played it in the airport.

(Also, his reaction to Tabletop winning an award is hilarious and adorable.)

I don't usually follow twitter, either. I keep meaning to post about WHY I am following twitter this month, but it just seems like too much work. (Seriously, here is my task list for the rest of the day, in the order of how much I'm looking forward to doing each task: reconcile my cc statements and pay the bills, watch my Netflix DVDs, write LJ entry, and place Japanese manga order. What is wrong with me?? How have I managed to transform fun things into chores?)

But since I loved Takenoko so much and the rest of the 'brain was less crazy mad in love with it, I found wilw's enthusiasm for the game to be a balm.
