Two weeks ago I went to Chicago for a job interview. I thought it went well, but apparently not well enough, because I just heard today that they decided to go with someone else.

Last Friday I took the video interview for the CBP position. The information I received said that it can take up to six weeks to determine whether I pass or fail. Hopefully I will pass, since if I fail I will be ineligible to take the interview again for a year. The person who set up the video at the customs office seemed to think that my application process would be expedited because I am female, and the government is trying to hire more women, particularly in agricultural areas. (My father, who works for the Department of Agriculture, has been saying this for years.) Of course, that could just mean it will be closer to the four month end of the estimated time frame than the nine month end.

After the interview, I went to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] wednesday_10_00, where she showed me a marathon of this season's Project Runway. On Saturday, the two of us joined up with [livejournal.com profile] mereflair and her husband for a trip to an Asian supermarket in Chicago followed by attending a Jim Gaffigan performance. There were a number of mishaps along the way, including an attempt to drive the wrong way down a one-way street and a miscalculation of the time zone in northwest Indiana, but we survived the trip unscathed, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wednesday_10_00's mad driving skillz.

I apparently picked up the sniffles from [livejournal.com profile] mereflair's husband, but it's a pretty mild case. Wednesday I said goodbye to my brother, [livejournal.com profile] florelhime, and their beagle Sakura as they set off for Scotland. My brother is planning to return after two weeks, but [livejournal.com profile] florelhime is studying for her master's degree there, possibly to be extended to a doctorate. I'm looking forward to seeing any pictures they might take of their experiences there.

The response from Chicago must have been disappointing, but I am impressed the results came back so quickly. Wasn't it forever between submitting your resume and the interview? I am sorry it didn't work out, but it's just a sign that you are destined to move out here. (YAY! I win!)

It feels a little bad to be rejected, but at the same time it's a relief not to have to face deciding between the two jobs.

Assuming I pass the video interview/background check and get hired officially, can I stay at your place while I hunt for an apartment?

(Just back from Up North, hence the late reply.)

Too bad about the Chicago job...SF is exciting, but I don't want you to go away. :( (But I still wish you luck in it, because I'm just that nice.)

Thanks to you, I got into this Project Runway kick and downloaded some of the early seasons, too. We need to watch season 4 together--it's totally my favorite. (Though 5 is fun too, so far. Suede is really growing on me, and Stella is hilarious. "I want to use LEATHA!")

We'll just have to make the most of our current proximity while we can!

Sounds like fun. Is that something you could bring over so that [livejournal.com profile] megory can watch it too? (She put the first season on her Netflix queue, but with only 4 episodes per disc, it will take a while...)

Sure, I can bring my hard drive and we can watch it via your laptop. I can get the current season, too (unless you've been downloading that on your own?).

When should we plan to get together? Do you have anything going on next weekend? I need to read Skip Beat 18!

Yay!

Nope, I generally leave the downloading to my brothers.

Do you have anything going on next weekend?

I should be free as far as I'm aware.

As long as you are aware that I will not be acquiring a guest room or a couch between now and ...well, ever, you are always welcome to slumber in whatever part of my apartment looks slumberable to you.
