This past week we had our yearly canine evaluations at work. I was a tad nervous going in, since Benny isn't exactly a puppy anymore, but I shouldn't have worried. Benny passed with flying colors. In fact, he did so well that he set the standard they measured the other dogs against. Way to go, partner!

I had really been looking forward to the weekend, because it was my long-awaited three-day weekend, and I thought I'd get lots done in the yard with all the free time. As it turned out, my weekend coincided with the three-month-late arrival of real winter weather...it poured rain all three days. So, I mainly stayed in the house the whole time.

One of the things that I like to do on the weekend is cook up a big batch of food that I can take to work for lunch during the week. Since I had extra time on my hands, I decided to make something more involved than usual. I whipped up a batch of bread dough and added in a sauteed onion and a tablespoon of Indian tea masala. While the bread was baking, I made cheddar/parmesan soup and poured in a can of Guinness that I picked up at the corner store. The combination of cheese soup and freshly baked spiced onion bread was heavenly.

The rest of the time I spent crocheting a baby blanket for my nephew while chipping away at the shows left on my DVR. I've made significant progress since last fall--I'm down to the half-hour programs now. I also got pretty far on the blanket; the body of it is nearly complete, leaving the fancy double-layered edging. I'm hoping to get it finished by next weekend.
