Color coordination
Dec. 3rd, 2012 05:41 pmAutumn progresses, and we've been managing to keep busy. The fall rains have been pouring down in earnest. I need to work on pulling all the happy weeds, but the ground is really too wet, so I'm putting it off. Out of all the trees in my yard, only the persimmon is displaying any attractive fall color. I'm sure it will be a lovely sight once the tree is more mature.
Last weekend, my parents and I went to Berkeley for an event in which various artisans about town opened their workshop doors to the public. We walked all over visiting them. There were artisans who made clothing, jewelry, statues, paintings, and even poetry. It was interesting, though none of the art was to my particular taste. My parents are hoping to return sometime to see more of the town.
A few days ago, my dad built a custom window seat for my guest room. There is storage space under the seat, and both sides are going to be bookshelves. The window looks out at the front yard, particularly the roses. Today we visited a shop in a neighboring town that makes custom cushions. I ordered a seat cushion and picked out a fabric design that really brings out the colors of the wood, the walls, and the floor. It's ridiculously expensive, but it should be gorgeous when it's done, and I'm just imagining how many hours of use it will get as a reading nook.
