Acronyms keep coming out of the woodwork
Oct. 20th, 2004 06:09 amOkay, making up new acronyms I can understand, but when people start using an already established acronym in a different way, that just messes with my head. I've been noticing people using ETA in ways completely inconsistent with Estimated Time of Arrival, so I had to go look it up.
While I was at it, I decided to look up GIP, since I've been seeing that all over the place as well. I was assuming it meant something along the lines of Go In Peace, but even so, that seemed a bit off. Here are some selected results of the search:
Galvanized Iron Pipe
Gastric Inhibitory Peptide
Generic Implementation Procedure
Giant Inflatable Penguin
Glazed Imitation Parchment
Global Internet Project
Government Industry Partnership
Gratuitous Icon Post (Aha! I think I found it.)
