Next stop: exams

Friday was spent getting the first and second year students to good stopping places in the textbooks before the exams start next week. Overall, it went decently smoothly, for mostly textbook work. I did have one small gripe, but I'll hide it behind a cut because it really is pretty minor.

Since I'm talking about textbooks, I thought I should provide this illustration. This is a stack of the textbooks I use for five different classes. As you can see from the ruler next to the stack, all of them together are only about two inches high. The thickest book in the stack is Open Sesame, the one book that I brought from the US. Imagine if American high school textbooks were this thin and portable...

The projects just keep coming out of the woodwork...

Today I went to the craft store near Lala Port to pick up some yarn for a larger crochet project. I thought I'd try my hand at using the double-ended hook to make a reversible duster. The craft store didn't have as large a selection of yarn as I would have liked, but I did manage to find some colors that look good together. Now I just have to hope that the amount I bought will be enough to finish the project, since I swiped up all they had on the shelf.

About 25% of the store was dedicated to beadwork materials; if I ever worked with beads, I'd probably be in seventh heaven. The remainder of the store was mostly bolts of cloth. I don't do much sewing, but I sure wish I did. The Asian fabrics, in particular, are just beautiful.

After that, I dropped by Lala Port to pick up a few items and decided to try eating at one of the restaurants there. They had potato and sausage gratin on the menu, which I asked for without sausage. Little did I know there was also stealth ham in it. <sigh> I know, it's my fault for not asking whether there was any other meat included in it. At least ham is bright pink and relatively easy to pick out. And the chocolate float I ordered for dessert was good.

If it's not raining tomorrow, I might take a trip out to Otsu to have a look around.
