Heh! I tried to do this in my class last year, but it didn't work because my students were too shy to guess anything. Here's the list I gave them:

1. Couch potato
2. Wear your heart on your sleeve
3. Barking up the wrong tree
4. Jump the gun
5. Basket case
6. Tongue in cheek
7. Jump down someone’s throat
8. Pull someone’s leg
9. Straight from the horse’s mouth
10. Let the cat out of the bag
11. Drive someone up the wall
12. Cough up
13. Kick the bucket
14. All thumbs
15. Two left feet
16. Jump on the bandwagon
17. Bite off more than you can chew
18. With flying colors
19. Keep your eyes peeled
20. Beat around the bush
21. Bent out of shape
22. On your toes

As for song lyrics...what's the point? They usually either A. Mean just what they seem to or B. Are complete nonsense. You could always give them some They Might Be Giants lyrics. Let them figure THOSE out. Ahahahaha.

If they're really determined to do songs, have them bring in lyrics they don't understand and ask you what they mean.
